As a business owner, you have many responsibilities to attend to. One of the most important of these responsibilities is keeping your customer’s safe while inside your store. If you don’t, you can probably expect to be shut down by the local government if not sued out of existence. With that in mind, below are some business maintenance ideas for a safe and secure customer experience.
Table of Contents
Obtain A Third Party Building Inspection:
There can be a lot of safety hazards inside a building. When that building is a store or restaurant, you run the risk of being sued if those safety hazards end up injuring a customer. Some of these threats may involve things you are completely unaware of. For example, you may have a poorly installed electrical system that could prove to be an electrocution or fire hazard. Since you are not an electrician, you may not even be aware of this threat. However, if you have a building inspection performed by a professional third party, you can discover many such threats that you may be unaware of in your building. That way, they can be fixed before they harm any customers.
Hire Roofers:
The most important part of any building is the roof. Without a roof, a building cannot provide shelter. This is even the case for a business. If your store does not have a safe roof, you do not have a safe building. Make sure to have any roofing issues repaired immediately. You will probably need to hire roofers to do the job for you. When the time comes, have your roof replaced entirely. Develop a good relationship with a roofing company. While you may not need to use that company often, it’s good to have the right people work on your roof when your building does require it. Shoddy roofing work will probably have to be redone completely in short order.
Perform Regular Safety Audits:
Just because your building was safe last week does not mean it’s safe today. Hazards can develop at any time. You need to stay vigilant. Daily safety audits are a good idea. Multiple safety audits in one day maybe even better. For example, what if during the winter you never checked the status of the walkways leading to your entrance? You may never notice that you forgot to lay down salt. It could pose a real threat that could result in a slip and fall accident. The same could be said for the floors inside your store, the appearance of tripping hazards you have not noticed, and much more.
Overall, you need to stay vigilant. A building is not necessarily safe on its own. Make sure important parts of the structure, such as the roof, are repaired when needed. Has the entire building been inspected for safety issues? Safety audits to discover hazards that have developed during the workday are also important. Providing a safe place of business for customers should be an ongoing responsibility.
