Bringing The Agriculture Industry Into The Age Of Technology

Bringing-The-Agriculture-Industry-Into-The-Age-Of-Technology
When most people think of farming, they don’t think of cutting edge technology. Instead, they think of the traditional methods for growing crops and raising livestock. While many of those same methodologies are still in use today, they have been made much more efficient thanks to the continual advancement of agriculture technology. As this technology improves, more food can be produced to help feed the world’s growing population. Below is an example of just a few of the ways cutting edge technology is being integrated into the agriculture industry.

Soil Sensors:

One of the challenges of farming has been ensuring that crops receive just the right amount of water to grow healthily. Thanks to the integration of technology, this is now easier than ever before. Sensors can detect moisture levels in the soil and automate when crops should be watered. These sensors can do the same for nitrogen levels as well and will also alert farmers when more fertilizer should be added to the soil.

Enterprise Resource Planning Software:

Many farmers now also use software similar to what is used to by the CEOs of large corporations. This type of software is known as Enterprise Resource Planning, or ERP for short, software. It has many applications in agriculture. For example, grain millers can use agriculture Cloud ERP to track invoices, discounts, and shipments for all of the grain produced and sold by the farm.

Livestock Tracking:

Technology has also made the raising of livestock far more easier today than it has been in the past. Microchips can now be implanted in individual animals to help track their movements via GPS. Farmers will know where all of their cattle or other livestock is at any given moment. Tracking these movements can also help a farmer pinpoint which animals may be sick or injured.

Vertical Farming:

Vertical farming is a new method of agriculture that was developed as a means to allow crops to be grown indoors in places where fertile soil and appropriate weather is not available. It involves growing crops stacked one on top of each other in a light and temperature controlled environment. It is believed this technology can even be used in space and may end up being implemented in colonies on other planets.

Farming has been a part of human civilization for nearly as long as there has been human civilization. However, today, it is changing faster than ever before. As new technology is adopted, farmers are able to increase the food supply in a more efficient manner. The entire world benefits from this technology as a result.
